All IAAR-SLATE components are informed and shaped by research, but our Research Component provides undergraduates with direct research experience. During the summer, a selected cohort of students pursue independent, scholarly research on a topic of their choosing. All research projects are original, contributing to an understanding of race, racism and racial equity as it pertains to people of African descent. Students’ research is guided by a UNC faculty member, whose own research IAAR-SLATE also supports during the summer. In the Fall, students present their research at an undergraduate research symposium open to the entire campus.
